Vybe is a private social hub for university students. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is written in plain language and designed to comply with POPIA and other applicable data protection laws.

2. Information we collect

Account information you provide at sign-up: first name, last name, email address, and password. Profile information you choose to add: bio, avatar, cover image. Content you post: posts, comments, event details, and messages. Usage information: device, approximate location (campus-level), and interaction data.

3. How we use your information

To create and maintain your account, verify you are a genuine student, provide the Vybe features, send essential account notifications (such as password resets and security alerts), and keep the community safe. Optional marketing and product update emails are sent only with your separate, opt-in consent.

4. Student verification

To keep Vybe private to real students, we may verify your student status using your university email or a verification link. Verification data is used only for access control and is not used to contact you for marketing.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us operate Vybe (under strict confidentiality), when required by law, or with your consent.

6. Your rights

You can access, correct, or delete your personal information, and withdraw optional marketing consent at any time from your communication preferences. Essential account notifications cannot be disabled as they are necessary to operate your account securely.

7. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, plus a limited period afterward for legal, security, and audit purposes.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted password storage and secure authentication. No method is 100% secure, but we work hard to keep your information safe.

If we make material changes, we will update the version and notify you in-app or by email before the change takes effect.
